MANDATE

The Six Nations Police Commission acts as the Police Governance Authority of the Six Nations Police Service. In this role, it is responsible for supervising policing functions for the Six Nations Territory. It is the duty of the Commission to develop terms of reference for itself. In consultation with the Chief of Police, the Six Nations Police Commission will be responsible for providing planning, direction and policy in connection with the attainment of the objectives and in the performance of their duties and in connection with crime prevention, maintenance of the peace and law enforcement in a manner that is responsive to the needs of the Community.

More specifically, the Six Nations Police Commission will: act as a human resource steward, managing transitional phases, act as community representation; provide risk management, performance and monitoring processes; and financial stewardship.
The Six Nations Police Commission is responsible for ensuring the Code of Conduct, and Public Complaints Process is developed and implemented and taking responsibility for appointment and hiring procedures within the Six Nations.
